Nick Olsen
Nick Olsen is a Brisbane-based artist whose work explores the relationship between architecture and the Australian landscape. With an emphasis on intense light and colour, Olsen sees the built environment as an entry point to memory. He paints the ‘ordinary’ to recreate a sense of familiarity or place, leaving the viewer to ponder past thoughts and feelings. After gaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Art (training under William Robinson), Olsen embarked on an extensive exhibiting career over three decades. He has been awarded several art prizes with a highlight being the 2011 Royal Overseas League Travelling Scholarship. Olsen’s work is held in the QUT Art Museum collection, Ipswich Regional Gallery, Redcliffe Regional Gallery and the Gold Coast HOTA.
