Dagmar Cyrulla’s work tells stories about domestic life, yet always with elements of tension and mystery. The private world of individuals and complexities that accompany human engagement are of great interest to Cyrulla: “Most of my work is about relationships and how we relate to one another. I take ordinary moments, snapshots in time, and give them poetry”. Wagner Contemporary is proud to present the artist’s impressive and intriguing new body of work, an exhibition which mirrors the artist’s love of people, their psychology and the complex narratives of private life.
Technically trained at the Julian Ashton Art School and the New York Studio School, Dagmar Cyrulla completed her postgraduate studies in Fine Art at Monash University (Melbourne). Her work has been selected for some of the country’s most prestigious awards, such as the Archibald Prize and the Doug Moran Portrait Prize. Most recently her work has been exhibited in the Salon des Refusés (2023), Portia Geach Memorial Award (2022), Fisher Ghost Art Prize (2022) and Ravenswood Australian Women’s Art Prize (2022).
The artist has been listed in ‘Artwatch’ as one of Australia’s top 100 artist’s to collect in 2023. Dagmar Cyrulla will be featured in the November issue of ‘Artist Profile’ magazine.
