Mark Hislop has been selected for the Dobell Drawing Prize, for his work on paper in 12 parts, ‘It is to the air that I dedicate myself’. The judges were impressed by the diversity of drawings entered, stating “We were amazed not only by the number of entries but by their quality and the sheer variety of approaches to drawing. It’s clear that today’s artists explore the full range of possibilities that drawing presents – from works utilising classic materials such as charcoal and ink through to works that engage with sculptural, performative aspects and digital technology” (Simon Cooper, Ben Quilty and Michelle Belgiorno).
