Genevieve Carroll’s animation, ‘The Anatomy of Still life’, is currently screening at Bathurst Regional Art Gallery (BRAG) in the exhibition ‘CEL: The Artist As Animator’ (showing until 3 April). Commissioned by BRAG, this fascinating stop-motion piece is the result of a five day residential intensive in Hill End in early 2021. The workshop was attended by five regional artists working across different disciplines. Visit the BRAG website for full exhibition details.”I love to make my art by attributing human characteristics to inanimate objects and nature and therefore I ask myself what is the heart, the muscle, the organs, and the nervous system of a still life? So I combined all these questions, thoughts and ideas into a giddy collaged roller coaster of an animation – as life can be sometimes – so when viewing, one feels to ask, “Give me a moment”, to stop and reflect on life” – Genevieve Carroll, 2022 (Courtesy Bathurst Regional Art Gallery).
